- In 1923, at the age of 21, Howie began
- playing for the NHLΓÇÖs Montreal Canadiens.
- He was best known for his all-out attacks on
- the goal. He would race down the ice, faking
- out defensemen with his lightning fast
- moves. Howie won the Hart Trophy (given to
- the league's most valuable player) three
- times and the Art Ross Trophy (as points
- leader) twice. At a time when goals were
- harder to score, he once scored 40 goals in
- 44 games!
